Join us in Rome to officially launch the Libya Energy & Economic Summit 2025, celebrate the Italian-Libyan connection and establish new pathways to prosperity.
Energy Capital & Power – organizers of the Libya Energy & Economic Summit (LEES) – will host a Libya-Italy Roundtable and VIP Networking Evening in Rome on September 23, strengthening cooperation between the two countries and serving as a strategic prelude to the 2025 edition of LEES.
Organized with the support of the African Energy Chamber, Libyan-Italian Chamber of Commerce, Rystad Energy and S&P Global Commodity Insights, the networking event will launch next year’s edition of LEES, while celebrating the Italian-Libyan connection and establishing new pathways to prosperity.
A spectacular evening in the heart of Rome will feature VIP keynotes and presentations to an audience of Italian and Libyan business leaders and officials, followed by opportunities to network, exchange ideas and forge new connections. An Oil & Gas Roundtable will gather CEOs from Libyan and European energy firms to outline current and future energy developments, while a Power & Renewables Roundtable will cover the significant role of power infrastructure development and how Libya can harness its potential as a leader in renewable energy in North Africa, leveraging its proximity to Europe.

PROGRAM
15:00 – 16:00 Oil & Gas Roundtable
Italy plays a substantial role in advancing Libya’s energy sector, in both hydrocarbons and renewables, as a major investor and market. This roundtable will gather CEOs of Libyan and European energy firms to drive current and future developments.
16:00 – 17:00 Power & Renewables Roundtable
As Libya moves towards a more sustainable and resilient energy future, this roundtable will discuss the significant role of power infrastructure development. By focusing on solar, wind, and hydrogen, Libya can harness its potential as a leader in renewable energy in North Africa, leveraging its proximity to Europe.
LEES 2025 serves as the premier international forum for private sector investment in Libya. Returning to Tripoli for its third edition in January 2025, the summit unites global investors, project developers and financiers with local stakeholders across critical areas of the Libyan economy to facilitate partnerships and drive deals forward. As Libya emerges as a nexus of regional energy trade – securing billion-dollar gas production deals and featuring a robust upstream project pipeline – all eyes are on the available investment opportunities in the market.
In early-2025, Libya is preparing to launch an oil and gas licensing round in the Murzuq, Ghadames and Sirte basins, as it seeks to increase crude oil output to two million barrels per day in the next three to five years. The country has received initial interest from more than 30 companies in its marginal assets alone, as well as identified 45 greenfield and brownfield projects that will help meet its production goals. In parallel, Libya is launching a robust gas monetization drive and recently allocated $1.23 billion to develop the NC-7 block – operated by a consortium led by Italian multinational energy company Eni – with a view to monetizing 2.7 trillion cubic feet of gas in the Ghadames Basin.
Italy already plays a substantial role in Libya’s energy sector, as both a major investor and export market. Libya’s Greenstream Pipeline transports gas to Sicily and lucrative European markets, with plans underway to increase the utilization of pipeline capacity up from 25%. Libya is also aiming to boost energy supplies to Europe, supported by an $8-billion gas production deal signed between Eni and Libya’s National Oil Corporation to develop two offshore gas fields, producing 750 million cubic feet of gas per day by 2026. In May of this year, Italy and Libya forged new cooperation among strategic sectors including renewable energy, green hydrogen, direct investment and joint initiatives, targeting the exchange of expertise in research, applied innovation in manufacturing and skills training. These initiatives and more will be explored at the upcoming roundtable and networking event in Rome, uniting Libya and Italy as ever-closer partners.
