Global oil and gas drilling contractor Nabors Industries is supporting Libyan production targets by scaling-up its operations and investing in local workforce development.
Speaking in an interview with Energy Capital & Power at the Libya Energy & Economic Summit (LEES) 2025, Travis Purvis, Senior Vice President: Global Drilling Operations at Nabors, stated that the company’s key priorities include safe operations, human capital development and partnerships.
“We have partnered with [Assail Drilling Company] – the biggest drilling and work-over contractor in Libya – and [aim to be] an integral part in delivering on the two million barrels per day target. We are going to be a significant part of that goal as we grow in scale in the country,” he said.
Discussing the company’s priorities in Libya, Purvis explained, “We want safe operations no matter where we work. We have 1,200 employees in the country and the safety of our employees is of paramount importance. Developing the local workforce is important to us as we scale and grow in the country, and obviously working with our partners such as the National Oil Corporation and operators in Libya.”
Nabors recently resumed operations in Libya and has plans to further strengthen its portfolio. The company announced at LEES 2025 that it is adding a third drilling rig to the Waha Oilfield in Libya’s Sirte Basin in 2025. Purvis explained that platforms such as LEES 2025 support expansion efforts, uniting operators and government under one roof to discuss clear industry goals.
“What is important about this summit is the alignment it brings. We come together as a community, including [operators], government officials and service providers. We leave with a common vision and alignment.”
