)
As Libya strives to increase production to 2 million barrels per day while accelerating gas monetization, infrastructure development and global trade, women stand to play a key role in contributing to these goals.
Speaking to Energy Capital & Power at the Libya Energy & Economic Summit 2025, Rabia Mgeig, Technical Advisor, Libya’s National Oil Corporation (NOC), said that the NOC is promoting greater participation by women in the oil and gas sector. The corporation offers their full support for women, encouraging inclusivity by ensuring women take on leadership positions.
“I have received full support from the management of the NOC. I was selected as a management committee member at the Petroleum Research Center for two years. It was a big challenge but I managed to take the responsibility with their support and encouragement. Many other women-lead projects and are in positions, especially in the NOC. The management of the NOC and its subsidiaries are encouraging women to take opportunities [in the sector],” Mgeig stated.
Mgeig believes that Libya’s oil and gas industry offers a lot of opportunities for women. Addressing women looking at entering the sector, she said: “While there are challenges, there are also many opportunities [in Libya] which you can grasp and prove yourself. This is your chance to contribute. Women can lead the energy future and we already have many women succeeding as leaders in the workplace.
