LEES: SLB, NESR, Baker Hughes and Top Service Firms to Drive Oil & Gas Innovation
A flagship panel will see international service providers share insight into their operations within Libya's thriving energy market. Speakers including Lorenzo Simonelli, Chairman and CEO of Baker Hughes, will unpack Libya’s role at the nexus of global energy trade and how emerging technologies can help boost operational efficiency.
Notably, representatives from global technology company SLB – a Gold Sponsor of LEES 2025 - are participating, including the company’s Executive Vice President: Core Services & Equipment, Abdellah Merad; and President – Middle East & North Africa, Tarek Rizk. SLB forged a partnership with Waha Oil Company in June 2024 to drive production and enhance technical training in Libya, and secured a contract in 2023 to drill three new wells in the Nesr and Al Waha fields.
A highlight speaker on this panel will be Sherif Foda, Chairman of the Board & CEO, National Energy Services Reunited (NESR) Corporation. As a provider of integrated energy services across the Middle East and North African region, NESR works closely with the National Oil Corporation (NOC) and Sirte Oil Company to support oil and gas production in Libya. NESR is a Silver Sponsor of LEES 2025.
A second service sector panel – led by Libyan firms – will explore how the country’s indigenous companies are harnessing technology for a sustainable energy future. Speakers will discuss how they are applying the latest innovations in oilfield services to reduce emissions and enhance output. These include Heimo Muckenschnabl, CEO of the Libyan Development Company (LDC). LDC offers a range of services, supporting key projects across the oil and gas value chain. The company signed an MoU with CTF in November 2024 to support Libya’s drilling activities. Ibraheim Mejerissi, Managing Director of Wazen Oil Services, will join as a speaker. Wazen Oil Services – one of the largest service providers in Libya – has a dynamic service offering, including project engineering, technical support, equipment rotation and more.
As Libya navigates a complex energy landscape, both local and international service providers are essential in driving innovation, enhancing operational efficiency and supporting sustainable growth. Additional speakers across the LEES program include Azza Maghur, Senior Strategy Advisor at Murzuq Oil Services and Jay Ibrahim, President of Sustainable Technology Solutions at KBR. As an NOC subsidiary, Murzuq Oil Services supports Libya’s NOC and its affiliates to develop the country’s energy assets. Meanwhile, KBR unveiled a strategic plan in 2024 in partnership with the NOC to revitalize the oil and gas sector.
Representatives from Contango, Petrogas and Challenger are speaking on the program, representing Libyan innovation. As an industrial supplier, Contango provides a range of services to oil, LNG and power projects in Libya while Libyan service contractor Challenger is in the process of acquiring new rigs and expanding its scope of oilfield services to support production growth. Challenger is focusing on sustainable innovation, collaborating with IOCs to address shortages in various oil services in the country. For its part, Petrogas offers a comprehensive range of advanced pump solutions in collaboration with Baker Hughes and Nuovo Pignone. The company has established partnerships with these firms and strives to enhance efficiency and reliability in Libyan oil projects.
