Countdown to the Libya Energy & Economic Summit 2025: One Month to Go
With just one month remaining until the Libya Energy & Economic Summit (LEES) 2025, anticipation is growing as Libya prepares to host one of the most significant gatherings of energy, finance and technology leaders in the region. Endorsed by the Ministry of Oil & Gas and National Oil Corporation (NOC), the summit promises to be a transformative platform for driving investment, collaboration and growth across Libya’s energy and economic sectors.

Endorsed by the Ministry of Oil & Gas and National Oil Corporation (NOC), the summit promises to be a transformative platform for driving investment, collaboration and growth across Libya’s energy and economic sectors.

The summit unites a diverse range of high-profile participants, including NOC subsidiaries, International Oil Companies, Libyan and foreign banks, energy organizations, and cutting-edge technology and service providers. This distinguished gathering highlights Libya’s crucial position in the global energy landscape and its potential as a center for innovation and economic growth. Key initiatives, such as an upcoming 22-block licensing round, new exploration campaigns in the Sirte, Ghadames and Murzuq basins, the $600-million Structures A&E project, and more than $17 billion in greenfield and brownfield projects by the NOC, underscore this potential.

The Libya Energy & Economic Summit is set to take place in Tripoli on January 18-19, 2025. The event will bring together industry leaders, investors and policymakers, aiming to foster dialogue, secure investments and support the growth of Libya’s energy and infrastructure sectors. The endorsement of the NOC and the Ministry of Oil & Gas solidifies the summit’s position as a key event in the Libyan energy calendar. These endorsements reflect the government’s commitment to fostering dialogue and partnerships that will advance Libya’s energy sector and broader economic recovery. The summit’s agenda is designed to address the most pressing and dynamic developments in Libya’s energy sector, with key topics including:

  • The resurgence of Libya’s oil and gas production and its impact on global markets
  • Opportunities for private sector investment in energy and infrastructure
  • The role of renewable energy in diversifying Libya’s energy portfolio
  • Digital transformation and technology’s role in optimizing operations and efficiency

Recent developments in Libya’s upstream sector underscore the nation’s growing momentum ahead of the summit. Over the past month, NOC subsidiary Zallaf Libyan Oil & Gas Company has prepared to launch operations on a new pipeline linking the Erwan and El Sharara oil fields. The Arabian Gulf Oil Company connected a newly drilled well in the Nafoura oil field, increasing production capacity by 2,000 BPD, while Sirte Oil completed two horizontal wells in the Zelten and Wadi fields using advanced reservoir mapping technology. Libya’s oil production has surged to 1.4 million BPD – the highest since 2013 – driven by projects such as the Erawin Field Development Project, which recently achieved first oil production.

Internationally, Libya’s Minister of Oil and Gas engaged in high-level discussions with counterparts from Qatar and Italy to strengthen bilateral energy partnerships. Domestically, Libya’s Development and Reconstruction Fund signed agreements with major French construction firms to advance critical infrastructure projects, while the Sirte Free Zone Authority partnered with Chinese multinational Huawei to develop a Smart Port at the Sirte Commercial Port, enhancing trade connectivity. With milestones being achieved across energy, infrastructure and economic development, LEES 2025 provides a premier platform for forging partnerships and showcasing Libya’s potential as a destination for investment and innovation.
