ANIMA Highlights Italian Commitment to Libyan Hydrocarbon Opportunities
)
Italian energy companies have shown a strong intention to resume operations in Libya, with ANIMA Confindustria Meccanica Varia – the industrial organization representing Italy's mechanical engineering companies – committed to facilitating the market re-entry and expansion of firms in the North African country.
Speaking at the Libya Energy & Economic Summit (LEES) 2025, Antonio Passarelli, External & International Relations at ANIMA Confindustria Meccanica Varia, emphasized how platforms like LEES support these goals.
“ANIMA is the federation of Italian mechanical engineers and we are the organizers of the Italian pavilion at LEES. We are here because we think that it is necessary to put an Italian flag in Libya, because this is a historical market for our company. We are here to give an opportunity for the seven companies that are [part of the pavilion]. The interest in the industry is strong, and for this reason, we hope that we will be here again next year with more Italian companies,” said Passarelli.
Given the strong ties between Italy and Libya, strengthening partnerships across the oil and gas industry will not only support Libya’s production goals, but also enhance energy supplies to its European partner. Passarelli stated, “Libya is a very strong market for the supply chain in the oil and gas industry, but also for construction, machinery and building materials. There are strong historical ties between Libya and Italy and the response to this event means that [Italian] companies want to come back.”
